IMPROVING ESP RELIABILITY

CHALLENGE:
Caisson ESP systems have significant potential to improve the recovery for GOM DW reservoirs, especially on Lower Miocene and Paleogene archetypes. It is critical to ensure that the ESPs are reliable with a Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of least 5 years, in order to make them economical. The existing system had a MTBF of 2.4 years.

SOLUTION:
Our engineer worked with pump manufacturers to improve the design of ESPs by incorporating a pressurized seal. This solved motor failure problems and improved the reliability target to 4.5 years. Also modified the ESP shaft design by incorporating an Inconel alloy.
